tripod for toyo 45AII

what tripod is dependable for the toyo 45AII?
something that is very portable, but still sturdy, stable for windy conditions~

Gitzo G1348 without the center column (you don't need it).

I have a Toyo 45A, and I'm using a Manfrotto 3021N (without centre column) and a 329 RC4 head. The legs are reasonably compact and light, and the geared, three-way head, with quick-release, is a pleasure to set up. Unfortunately, the price did make me inhale rather sharply...

I have the 45AX. Normally, I use it on a Gitzo Tele Studex, but that's a bit overkill. I also use a 1227 with an Arca B1. It works well in good conditions with 210mm lenses and shorter, but ideally something a little heavier, such as the G1348 suggested above, would be better. Using spiked feet when outside would help, as would hanging a weight so that it just touches the ground from the center column. I like Gitzo, but I'd also check out Feisol tripods.

I have a 17 lbs wooden tripod. It great and very stable, but I wouldn't call it portable.

The Toyo Field cameras should work well with any of the 2 series or greater Gitzo's, CF or aluminum. Carbon fiber is wonderful, albeit expensive. With the hook, you can suspend a camera bag or other weight for added stability. Every time I look longingly at a Ries, my longing disappears when I pick it up. Ideally you'd not use the centerpost. When I had my Toyo 45A, I used a 3 series CF, no centerpost, with an Arca B1. That setup was quite solid.

Berlebach with leveling base for durable, solid, option but bulkier
Feisol is the best combination of lightness, portability, cost
Gitzo if you have money to burn.

The best combination of price/weight/quality is a used TILTALL (made by Leitz) and usually listed on ebay. They weigh 6#, sell for somewhere under $100, and seem to last forever. Avoid the new ones made in China.

I have a Toyo 45AX and use the same legs and head as Don Wilkes: Manfrotto 3021 (with column) and the 329 RC4 head with QR. Excellent system, very stable.

I have a Toyo 45A and use a Gitzo 1228 with Acratech ball head. Can't say that I have had many problems but I wish the combo was a bit taller at times. I do like carrying a CF tripod, though.
