For me, darkroom work has never been a problem, it's the waste chemical disposal that's put film photography on hold. I doubt that I'd ever accumulate enough to warrant the costs.

BTW, I'm from the Loving South of Wichita Falls and North of Graham:

    Steaphany,

Our Sat. morning photo group frequently travels west on 114, searching for new and interesting scenes to put on film. We start at Southlake, near Grapevine.

I see that Loving is on 114. We've been to Decatur and Possum Kingdom Lake? Are they close to your location?

I'm about 60 miles West of Decatur and 30 Miles from Possum Kingdom Lake.

Just take a look at the Google Map link I posted and zoom in, you'll see my ranch.

Regarding local mountains, they're called mountains, even being named, but they are nothing more than hills.

Welcome, Steaphany. I like the juxtaposition of "loving" and the nuclear bomb blast of your avatar image. Very Texas

As others have said, LF photography is similar today to 1971 or whenever. Hell, I shoot a couple of 1920s and 1910s LF cameras and they work just fine!

Actually, there are several reasons that I have that image as my avatar.

First, I feel the old atmospheric atomic tests photos are pretty. They have an aesthetic quality similar to a Sunset or Sunrise. Photographically, they are difficult subjects. In images such as this, most of the color comes from the filter used to reduce the intensity of the light.

Second, This particular image is of the Stokes shot done in August 1957 - the year I was born. Alternatively, an image of the Sputnik launch would have a similar historic reference, but I have never been able to locate any quality photos.

Third, It marks a scientific and technological milestone of our culture. Culmination of the discovery of Uranium, the structure of the atomic nucleus, the strong and weak nuclear forces, and the technological achievement necessary to manipulate matter.

    Obviously, I'm a techi
