Obviously both is best, but I'm trying to figure out this problem on a budget. I have the Cokin P system for B&W filters, and bought Hitech grads for use with my 35mm system. I have only one LF lens- a 210mm Schneider Symmar that takes a 77mm filter ring (same as my 17-40 L Canon lens), but want to eventually add a Fuji 300c and 450c. I'm hoping the P filters will be wide enough to cover these lenses (my impression is that it's only a problem for wide lenses??) on both my 5x7 and if I eventually went to 8x10. I don't have a lens shade for my LF lens yet, and when using these filters on either camera system, I've never used a lens shade. I'm wondering how to get around this problem of using filters and a shade at the same time (short of finding the Cokin P Bellows, for a couple hundred bucks). If filters are on, is a shade even necessary? Because if not, I could just get a cheap rubber screw on lens shade for $10 when not using filters. I'd hate to buy the Cokin P bellows and find out later I need to move up in filter size for the longer lenses or larger format (I'd eventually probably want to add a 600mm if I actually got an 8x10 camera, and I'm not even sure what filter ring size would be available to fit in the P system).
Thanks,
Tim
