If anybody still interested. I have bought the Stella 450mm marked F5 on the barrel aperture scale, but on the name plate on the front it is F5,6 (with "6" much smaller). In fact i had some underexposed collodions with it. After measuring the lens parameters it seems to be 485mm FL and speed of 5,6 1/2. This is a soft lens.

I have always assumed that the Stella is a rebadged Rapid Aplanet (F5) with Jens glass - as the offered focal lengths were an exact match.

There is a 42 and a 50cm in the catalogue. I can see that the simple division of focal length by glass diameter shows that some focal lengths can be F.5, others will be nearer F.6.

It is quite common for longer focal lengths not to reach the speed presented at the top of the advertisment!

    Serial no. would be interesting?
