    Another Waterhouse Stop Question

Last week I got my first barrel lens that does not use an iris to set the stops. I have searched and done a lot of reading in the archives here and on other photo sites as well as on Google. I have gotten a lot of information and suggestions as to how to make a set of DIY Waterhouse stops. There is, however, something I have not seen discussed.

The barrel of my lens has an inside diameter of 4cm. The slot is 3cm. When I cut a piece of material to fit through the slot and also cut it with an arc to match the wall of the barrel opposite the slot, I still have open spaces between the barrel and both sides of my stop material. How does one block these openings?

Factory cut lenses had 'sleeves' screwed in place to hold the stops and block the light. What size are the internal lenses? If smaller than 3" then it should not be a problem. If larger you could make 2 plates barrel ID with 4 tabs bent over to hold in place and cut the 3" slot thru.

Ahh, now that makes sense and also explains the small round hole opposite the slot. It looks as though I am missing this part as well as the stops. I'll see if I can make something that will work.

Since I live in western Washington State I am rarely bothered by raging bright sunshine and should often be able to get by with slow film and ND filters.

    Thanks, Paul
