    Greetings from Florida!

    Hi,

My name is Jeff Copeland and my wife and I own Simple Treasures Photography in St Petersbrug Florida.

To be honest, I know almost nothing about Large Format Photography (hey, that's why I'm here!). I stumbled upon a thread in the forum while searching for liability insurance for photographers and found it interesting.

My expertise lies mainly in the business and marketing side of the photography biz, so you might see me posting there (and mostly lurking everywhere else!).

As a result of the success we have had marketing our own photography business, I recentlly started a niche marketing firm called Tampa Bay Search - I do internet marketing and search engine optimization for small businesses and photographers in other markets.

I look forward to learning and sharing on the forum!

    Welcome to group therepy!

Do you have any LF equipment yet or are you just getting started in what can easily prove to be an obsession?? Its a fun area of photography and a very different way of operating from shooting with a DSLR, a 35 or a MF SLR. I would guess that your business uses mostly DSLR equipment as do most portrait studios these days.

Lots of good info available here! Have fun!

Hi Vick. Thanks for saying hello.

    Yep - strictly DSLR.

We do have some small format film cameras in the quiver, but haven't even touched them in months.

Stupid question - is LF strictly a film medium, or is there a digital equivalent (i.e. "large sensor" digital)?

There are digital backs for LF, but , like medium format, the cost is prohibitive for most folks. Some of the older scanner backs can be had reasonably, but exposure times and being teathered systems make them mostly studio beasties. If you already happen to have a Hasselblad system with a digital back, adapters are made to use these on LF cameras.

To most of us, LF is a film medium. Oh, and, by the way, 4"x5" = one hellofalota pixels!!!

There use to be a LF group in your area, but some prominent members have moved eslewhere (see groups & clubs under main LF page). Clyde Butcher has a studio in Sarasota, and Dan Montgomery is just North of you. Good Luck.
