MTF curve for super symmar HM lens

Does anyone know where to find the MTF curve for super symmar HM lens? I have seen the MTF curves for apo sironar w, just like to compare these two.

Sorry for what do you need MTF curves you should take pictures;--))))
This have been the high end lenses of Schneider about 25 years ago!

I just like to see the comparison between the two lens. One is much lighter apo sironar w, and the other is heavier super symmar hm. Both have 80 degree coverage.

I use the sironar W 150mm on my 5x7. I've had it since before they called it a W. A great lens and as you have noted, much smaller.

Does the HM in the name, denote High Modulation ? In other words, are these the top-of-the-line Schneider lenses ?

Don't the curves for f/22 look very impressive - like what we see with the best small-format lenses ?

How do these charts compare with those of the corresponding Rodenstock offerings ?

In actual practice, I found that at f/22, my old 150mm Heliar did just as well (in the center anyhow) as my APO Sironar S.

Ken, they're not "top of the line" any more than the Apo-Sironar-W is "top of the line" for Rodenstock. The HM and W series are specialized lenses for applications where maximum coverage outweighs other considerations like size, weight and maximum MTF at the center of the field.

The Super-Symmar HM MTF's aren't really any better than those for the contemporaneous Apo-Symmars in the same focal lengths, and the HM's are much bigger and heavier. Horses for courses.

PS: I should add, I own many of the Rodenstocks from all three series - N, S and W. For my purposes, they're all very nice optically, and the choice of which one to take along is usually just a matter of trading off coverage against size/weight. It's rare that I need to worry about the small differences in MTF.

I would like to comment on one of the 210 HM's I had a chance to evaluate some years back. I was interested in replacing my 210 Symmar convertible with a newer lens with less miles on it. My dealer got Schneider to send a new 210 HM for me to use for a week or two to see if I liked it. I also took a new 210 Symmar S at the same time and shot side by side in my studio. In short I was very disappointed in the color of the HM. Compared to the Symmar S it was very green. I shot the same shots on both lenses with Provia E-6 and the film was processed in the same run. No contest, I bought the Symmar S and sent the HM back.
