A recent return visit to Helton Creek. For some odd reason I used my 135mm vs my usual 65 or 90 for this spot but the water was shallower so I was able to get out into the middle more. The negatives are a bit dense too but it printed really easily using #2 filter on Ilform MGFB WT, only had to burn in top about 1/3rd more. Dodged bottom right a little and may enhance that swirl with some selective bleaching.

Frogtown Creek III - Same view as original Frogtown Creek but from opposite side of creek and a little further back. Early morning so contrast was manageable.

Lower Helton Creek is a tough nut to crack. I like the rhododendrons on the upper right there to give some context. I wish there was some more visual interest in the lower pool area to compose with, but alas.

I had to look up where Frogtown is. I see it's near Desoto Falls - I've been when I was younger, but not recently. That should be rectified! I'm out of town starting tomorrow till pretty much next year but after that hopefully the weather cooperates and I can get out on the trail again.

Frogtown Creek is the creek that runs through the campground at Desoto Falls. Desoto falls upper trail is closed due to storm damage, that is what I had hoped to shoot that day.

I've been most of the month of December without shooting LF film until today. Just plain busy with work and getting ready for winter. Winter is here now and I love to photograph it.

Jason, good for you for getting out there. Its in the 50s and 60s here and I don't feel like getting out. I like the minimalism of image 106.

Desoto Upper falls. I shot these falls about a year ago but put the negative away thinking it was too difficult to print. The early sun was shining on the upper right side while the lower left was in shade. My notes indicate there was about a 5 stop difference from shadows to white water. The top of the negative had some issues due to a bit of light slipping in when I inserted the slide back into the holder. I decided to give it another try and printed this slightly cropped version. The overall exposure under the enlarger was 10 seconds but I burned in the upper 1/3rd an additional 5-10 seconds then used a hole in a card to burn in the right side another 10 seconds. I also like it cropped square from the bottom to eliminate some of the trees at top.

    Delta 100 4x5 processed in HC110 1:63 for 12 minutes, a bit too contrasty, so I printed using a #1.5 filter.
Printed on Ilford MGFB warmtone with PF106 and scanned in color mode so the warmth of the paper comes through more than what I see in real life but it gives me something to strive for when toning.

    The lighthouse at Crescent City
Battery Point Light was one of the first lighthouses on the California coast, It’s fourth-order Fresnel lens was lit in 1856.
The lighthouse is open to the public only when low tide permits access, daily from April through September, however; the tide rises quickly and the land bridge to the lighthouse can disappear rapidly.
