Thread: What did you compose at Waters Edge?

Plenty of great inspiration for me here. My first post of a photo. Made with ERA 100 film, Fotoman 45PS with 90mm lens. I had carried my tripod down to the rocks, then discovered I'd left the camera mounting plate back at the accommodation. So this was shot hand-held, braced, at 1/15 and f/32.

Nice set and some beautiful country back in there--I've traipsed through the region quite a bit, but never got to explore, say, the Dolly Sods as much as I would like. (Also, a lot of history in that area as well, e.g. Great Meadows/Fort Necessity where George Washington basically kicked off the first "world war.")

    Thanks!
WV is a lovely place. You'd be rewarded if you found the time to explore some.

Well, US 52 up to Huntington always left me feeling a little under-gunned, but as a whole I agree. FWIW, I always regret not fishing the Cranberry Wilderness a bit more--I haven't seen peaty water like that this side of Wales...you could probably tan hides with it straight from the stream.

Now that's what I call making a virtue out necessity. (Speaking as one who's spent an inordinate amount of time--and incurred more than a few falls--trying to find a window through or over the riparian vegetation in this part of the world.)

Sad thing is in WV a lot of what you refer to peaty water is actually abandoned mine runoff and is a big problem for the water in the entire state. I am BTW a GIGANTIC fan of the state of WV being only 30 mile from the boarder and having a second home for quite a while in Oakland Md and that home was less then a 1/2 a mile from the boarder of WV. But MANY streams in the area have the peaty color but again it's NOT vegetable matter causing the brownish red color but a abandoned coalmine leaching into the streams and waterways.

Andrew I must say I have really been enjoying your many recent posting of your images. Keep em coming as they are fairly familiar to my travels and love of this part of the world.

Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't let James Wright weigh-in about West Virginia:

For the river at Wheeling, West Virginia,
    Has only two shores:
The one in hell, the other
    In Bridgeport, Ohio.
