Is this Raven Cliff near Helen or the one in NC? I have not seen this particular section, at least not from this viewpoint. If this is the first falls on the trail then my compositions are from the rock at the base of the falls. There is one set of falls you can hear from the trail but not see and I did not feel like repelling down the hill that day.

It is the one near Helen. This is the nice falls about halfway down the trail. You are probably thinking about this one but I got way out front of it. I had to pick my way over the rocks and through some of the water carefully to get to where I wanted to go.

I think I know the ones you are talking about that need repelling to get to, and I really want to get down to it!

I did have that middle falls but my tripod must have been unlevel and the fallen tree was not there then. For the hidden falls you can cross the creek at the top of the falls and work your way to the other side and deal with that slope a little easier. I have it from years ago on 35mm.

Nice, yeah that's a totally different perspective. It had just rained the day before so the water was flowing pretty good - I wanted to get down lower to where you seem to be but it was impossible to do safely due to the flow. There's an image in the Landscape thread on page 1285 that is close to the cascade in your picture dead center.

I didn't think about crossing the falls up top there, I'll try that next time! We should go out there on another outing.

This on 4x5 Shanghai GP3 in Pyrocat M. 135mm Sironar S. Very early morning, 15s exposure. The notch code top right is very annoying but I still have not found a way to clone things out of a clean looking gradient in photoshop. It just never works whatever you do.

Nice image David, I like it. Does cropping out the notch code significantly change the aesthetic you visualized?

Thanks. It takes time for me to know how a picture should look and this is still new.

lovely minimalist image. the spotting tool in lightroom should minimize the notch code for web display, in a print a bit of dodging practiced on test strips or use a mask with gradient tones.

In spite of my efforts to avoid any reference to Inspector Montalbano in Punta Secca, Sicily (he's everywhere, like Holmes in Baker Street or Morse in Oxford) it turns out there's a shop right in the middle of the shot offering Arancini Di Montalbano... damn!
