    Alas, how true!

Well, at least we know them when we see them.
    Where are we going?
And why are we in this handbasket?

This sail boat was caught in a storm and went aground. The owner effectively abandoned it and it was eventually battered to pieces and removed from the beach.

This was the only film image I took (Wista 4x5, 90mm, Atomic X @40, developed in Diafine). Digital images chronicling the demise over several weeks can be seen here:

Nice photos, but depressing-- my parents owned a Morgan Out Island for several years. For a moment, I thought it was our former boat, but then I realized it was a ketch (and a bit bigger). Must have taken quite a beating-- they were pretty tough boats.

It was tough boat, it was battered for several weeks. Interesting story. It would have cost about 6-8K to float the boat, but could recover several times that for salvage. Owner claimed he didn't have the money. Friends of mine set up a go fund me account for him. After collecting several thousand dollars the owner apparently skipped town with the money. By the time the city officials could get bids and make a decision, high tides and storms pretty much destroyed and reduced it's salvage value to a fraction of what it was. Plus it couldn't be floated so had to be cut up piece by piece significantly increasing the removal costs.
