Please tell see what a retina print is. I have been making in camera lumens/ lumen box images for a while. Are retina prints similar? Thanks.
in camera lumens, yeah I think they are similar ... I use a regular camera, longish exposure and the image is stained on the paper / film and it is ephemeral. Is that an in camera lumen ? I used the name Nicéphore Niépce used back in the 1820s for his long exposed images. I have a lot of grey images that I've tossed over the years
You are saying that you coat a piece of paper (instead of a pewter plate) with Bitumen of Judea...expose this and then wash it out with lavender oil?? You got this to work??? I tried this years ago with my students, using a cleared piece of film - and got, well...something - but not much of anything really!
Hi John
No not those (although I know someone who used to make Physautotypes). Niépce also coated sheets of paper salted with Ammonium Chloride with and then sensitized with silver nitrate. He'd put them in his obscura with the lens open. I use modern paper, liquid emulsion or hand made silver chloride emulsion. I figure if Niépce had Caffenol he would have been remembered by more than the guy who invented photography and then was conned and ripped off by his "partner".
People think photo paper is extremely light sensitive it isn't really. I've loaded Ilford FB paper in a 22x28 camera in broad daylight and had no problems. Then again I'm sure some people would have problems not only with the loading in broad daylight but the whole operation . I've gotten my exposures down to about 6 minutes .
