Merg, I'm always interested in an artist's thought process. When you made this image, had you seen Harry Callahan's series of weeds, grasses, etc. in snow? The themes look similar, but you have more going on in the frame, Callahan's are more sparse.
Peter, I was aware of Callahan's work in the 1950's from magazines, or perhaps the US Camera Annuals. I recall similar themes being explored here on the West Coast, and also internationally. When Siskind introduced me to Harry in 1959, I had the opportunity to view the breadth of his work. I found his landscapes the least interesting, but much of his work was inspirational, and his reputation as an excellent photographer is well deserved.
Earlier the same year (1959) that I made the (NH Pond) photograph, the photo below (Reeds Indiana) is more to my liking for its simplicity, in contrast to the busy NH Pond image.
As I have mentioned, much of my work has been influenced by painters; Kandinsky, Klee, and Modigliani come to mind.
Thanks for asking.

I like Reeds as well. Almost seems like you have some hidden message typed in there. Very decorative as well.
Merg, I love Reeds and Pond! REALLY love. Thank you for sharing.
