And the light clouds fill the upper left corner just enough...

Nice shot. The puffy clouds balance out the shot nicely.

Kmallick, I find this a very painterly photograph, by which I mean the sense of place, time, and atmosphere; the quiet use of space, and the handling of what could be very distracting detail in the foreground. There is a unity that fits the idea. I, myself, react against many images that, through digital means, have been sharpened to a degree that the effect overtakes the content. This one is lovely.

Thanks for your kind words and the beautiful explanation of why you liked it. I feel blessed and also happy that I got up early that morning.

Re: What did you compose at Waters Edge?

On one of my Sunday Morning Adventures I ventured down a dirt road near Helen GA to follow the Chattahoochee River. I found a spot to park near a trail that led down to the river and a rock outcrop. While I was setting up my camera a local resident decided he needed to bathe before heading to church. He proceeded to strip down to his swim trunks and plunged into the pool of water to my left in this image. He had brought soap and shampoo with him and was in the water for a good 10 minutes. He had a lovely large dog with him that was sweet and well mannered. The dog would come and see what I was up to and then would go back to his rock to sit and watch. I went about setting up my shot and once the gentleman and dog had left I made my exposure. As I was leaving the area I saw the man in his nicer clothes walking to the church a mile or so down the road, with his dog.

5x12 FP4+, Pyrocat-M , Ilford MGFB Glossy (scan of print).

Iphone photos of the dog and the setup of the shot.

The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.
