    Jim,

GREAT image. Brings back vivid memories of a 1974 early start one-day climb with a buddy for sunset color photos from the summit with glassy air. Feeling fulfilled, started the descent at last sunlight, was dusk when we unroped. My friend took off his crampons (kept mine on) at the lower part of the glacier, then took one step and went horizontal in midair and was able to arrest his 100-foot slide just before hitting the rocks. He was OK. Yup, those were the days!

Jim, I love the image. What filter did you use for this image?

John, there is a magical quality to the light in this one. Very compelling photograph.

    Gentlemen,

    Thank you for your comments...

This part of the world can be magical, and treacherous too. Mountaineers, such as yourself Jerry, do love to scale the various eastern slopes, and Wayne, you should take a few days to revisit the area within the next decade.

As for the filtration question, MyNikonLens, I have not used a filter for several years...

    Again, thank you.

Thanks JR, David, & Jim, its great to get reinforcement.
I waited for a large cloud to pass over and took the shot as the sun was getting filtered through the edge of the cloud, as you observed, JR. Concerning filtering, the yellow flowers have been a problem as their observed brilliance gets dulled in the b/w process. Yellow and orange filters haven't worked as the grass and flowers seemed to merge, but for this shot a red filter seemed to give a better separation between the green and yellow, interestingly. I had to sort this out through trial and error.
90% of the vineyards around here are trellis'd and have irrigation tubes running all over the place, but there are a few that are left in the old style where they're left to grow in their own natural shape such as this one. Planted in 1900 by immigrant Italians, I would guess, as there was a big group that came here around then.

    Cool Re: Large Format Landscapes

Here's one from Columbia Bottom Conservation Area in 2008. Charten whole plate camera, Crown Anastigmat Series I, 6˝x8˝ (I call this lens 270 mm), HP5+, ISO 400, 1/2 sec., f/22, developed in Pyrocat-HD.
