This is a camera I built with parts of old cameras, it's a "point-&-shoot camera because it has no focusing ring, it is fixed focused for about 10 feet. I made it about 6 month ago and I did not make any photo without a tripod, yet!!!!

I think I must rename it as a "Home made Tripod-&-point-&-shoot 4x5 camera"!!!!

    Nana,

I always wondered about having a fixed focus camera. I know that most early box cameras were built this way, but I always worried about having everything in focus. It appears that if you are focused on 10 feet, you have found the sweet spot! I used my DOF calculator, and your 47mm lens should have a near focus of 4.421 feet, with a far focus of infinity, at F8. Not bad!

Do you use a center ND filter on this lens?

    Jon

First photo posted on this forum. I have only shot a couple dozen photographs with a 4x5. This was photographed with a B&J 4X5 press with a Kodak Ektar 127mm f/4.7 on Agfa RSXII 100. The stream is Upper Pine Bottom Run which parallels Rt 44 north of Waterville, PA.

    Dear Diane,

    Merci...

I have a couple more images in the bin from that day, and I will try to present them later this month and, or early next, once I complete the development process. Valentine's Day was filled with overwhelming opportunities, but as fate would have it, the fog base would repeatedly break and reform, causing long periods of wait time for an image to reappear, and eventually I simply ran out of gas, light, and frost.

Stanage Edge in the Peak District, UK.

This was part of a test to compare 12 year out of date Astia with fresh stuff. There was actually little difference, even given that one was Astia 100 and the new stuff 100F.

    This is the 1998 vintage...

I've written a blog about using out of date film, if you're interested you can read it here
