Been waiting for months to give this region another go. Pretty happy with this, but I'm thinking about trying some more close-up details and layering them on top of this image. Also, I need to shoot this on film.

    Alnitak Region:
    Messier 42 - Orion Nebula
    Barnard 33 - Horsehead Nebula
    NGC 2024 - Flame Nebula

    Pentax 400mm f/4, Nikon D800E, on Skywatcher EQ6-R
    Two-hour exposure (50 frames at 2.5 minutes)
    Auto-guided with PHD2 and a secondary scope/camera

    Good one, Bryan!

Jon, the focus-stacking is working well.

    Peter and Randy,

Thanks for the feedback on the focus stacking. I should have mentioned that using Photoshop CC to process the stack did not work well. I got 'ghosting' in the image. Blurry spots between foreground and background intersections of the image. Based on a suggestion from the Nikon Café, I tried Helicon Focus. It worked first time without fail. I guess Photoshop is not always the best.

Yeah, Helicon focus does a great job. I have Zerene Stacker, but I prefer Helicon.
