So I have a problem...and that problem is classic German and Japanese rangefinders and lenses! I just can't help myself when I find a deal on a nice early Contax, Leica, or Nikon lens that I don't have. A while ago I found some mint examples of the Zeiss 21mm f/4.5 and 35mm f/2.8 Biogon lenses for the Contax rangefinder for peanuts. Due to just not shooting a lot of 35mm film lately I didn't use them till finally yesterday when I scouted a new location.

And I am not easily impressed with small format photos, but the sharpness, tones, and feel from these lenses is fantastic. I was really surprised. Shot with my Bessa R2S on TMX/Acufine.

Re: safe haven for tiny formats

When I was young, I used to love to watch the storms roll in from my bedroom. My parents had a two-story house near the top of a hill so I had a great view.

Here in the flatlands of south GA, there's not too much in the way of hills, and lots of tall pine trees, so not a great view usually. So today I did a bit of storm-chasing. I saw on the radar a major front was headed mostly northeast and so I thought I could watch it roll by just south. I guess the winds changed and it came more east and overtook my position. Lots of rain and wind for about a half hour but luckily there is a small shelter nearby so I was fine. These two photos were just moments before it hit, about halfway up a fire tower.

    Nikon F2SB, Nikkor 15mm f/3.5, Rollei CN-200 (C-41):

Wish I'd had a better camera. Almost brought a 6x7 but decided to shoot some 35mm. This is the best view I've had of a storm in a long time and didn't bring the big camera...stupid! Oh well maybe next time.

Corran & Scott, these latest images are nasty good. The quality you produce in 35 is inspiring.

    Well, thanks HiHoSilver!

Here's two more, from very different cameras. First, the same Nikon F2SB and early 5cm f/2 pre-AI:

And here's a photo from the same day, taken with my Leica III and late coated 5cm f/3.5:

Not quite "soft focus" but very glowy which shot-wide open.
