Yep, it is definitely more fun to have done it myself!

Good photo, Bryan! If I behave myself, I might get an inexpensive tracking mount for Christmas.
May tomorrow be a better day.

Thanks tuco and Peter! I definitely would like a smaller tracking mount just for DSLR shooting.

    Last night's crazy setup:

Despite this, I got a decent image of our nearest major galaxy. I think this was about 5 minutes of 15" exposures stacked, at an ISO of 1000, with my Nikon D800E and Sigma 300mm f/2.8:

Not amazing by any stretch but I'm getting better I think!

I also shot a wide-field shot on 4x5 with a 250mm lens so we'll see how that goes...
    Nice one Bryan!

Perhaps this is where to discuss cheaper alternatives

My main LIFE goal right now it watch and photograph the April 8 2024 Total Solar Eclipse as my location has great duration

Would this work? The reviews indicate it worked fine with the 2017 event which I saw here also

Thanks Jon, and yes I am happy to have that tripod for such a big, heavy rig!!

I'm also interested in smaller, camera-only tracking mounts. There seems to be a lot of interest in that lately and a variety of products available.
