Gloom and grain
Gloom and grain
A couple of digitals in advance of Valentines Day, decorations found on my daily walk. Both Sony Alpha 7, Leitz Summicron 50/2. (Continuing my efforts to use the little camera for things that I couldn't do as easily with the 4x5.)

I really like taking portraits of desert plants.
Here's an ocotillio.
Lovely Scott. one of my favorites of the recent images, and I have liked many of them.
nice softness but not too soft, vignett lends nice tone/mood. The highlights have life and the shadows feel real/solid. nice find.
Thanks kindly nicholas.
I forgot to mention this was taken with my 5D and super takumar 85/1.9. Sweet lens wide open.
Here's two more from my trip.
Ah Scott, you are stoking my road trip urges again.
Nice stuff.
Regards
Marty

Molas Lake, South of Silverton, Colorado
D300, 24-70mm lens
I took this about 2 years ago and never printed it til today.
Taken after sunset, but there was still a glow to the sky and enough light to capture the scene. Despite some refinement in PS, I feel the image falls a bit flat.
Have tried many variations, but this level of brightness and contrast seems the best overall.
Comments welcome.

It's a very nice image. You might try adding a bit of high radius/low amount sharpening to boost mid-tone contrast. So, duplicate layer. Go to filter> unsharp mask. Set the radius at 70. Adjust the amount to taste. You can add a layer mask to paint out/in the effect, and of course you can lower the opacity of the layer to moderate the effect.
