    The Avedon Years

Entertaining and informative reading from RA's assistant & studio manager. Lots of LF content too...

That was very interesting reading. I sat down intending to browse a bit and ended up reading the entire thread, all 20-something parts.

Great reading. Thanks for the link. I've been back several times. Like Christopher I took what was to be a quick look and kept reading.

Very interesting stuff, thanks for the link. Like others, I thought I'd just read a few chapters covering his time with Avedon and ended up reading lots more.

I didn't see anything like that. Are you sure he photographed his dead mother? I know he photographed his father as his father's fatal illness progressed but I don't remember anything about his dead mother. Of course photographing deceased family members was a very common and popular practice in the 19th century so it wouldn't be that strange, I've just never heard that Avedon did it (which doesn't mean a whole lot, I'm not an Avedon expert by any stretch).

    Re: The Avedon Years

    Hello Brian,,

I followed Richard for many years before I decided on using LF ... His images are just so great it's not even funny..
I seen the interview on television one day many years ago and I never forgot it because ppl were really giving him hell over it..
He took these shots in the late 19th century and no, ppl didn't take it kindly at all..
They even so much as suggested that everyone boycot his images and not to hire the man...
I have a lot of respect for Richard and his work but I too wondered why he would do this but I can honestly say it doesn't make me think any less of his ability as an artist..
For the life of me I can't remember his reaction though..
