Linhof 8x10 Kardan Triplex Auxiliary Bellows

Does anyone know or have the specifications for the length of the auxiliary Triplex (the big camera with 9" lensboards) bellows? This is the square-section bellows that attached to the auxiliary or intermediate standard. TIA,

    Cheers,

    Steve

    Steve,

the auxiliary bellows is the standard bellows for the 4x5" Kardans (from the Kardan-Bi up to the last models) with 500mm maximum lenght. The double tapered 8x10" bellows has a maximim lenght of 1000mm.

The Kardan-Color 8x10" uses the Kardan-Color 5x7" bellows as auxiliary bellows with a maximum lenght of 600mm.

The very first Kardan from 1952 used an auxiliary (gray) bellows with 430mm maximum lenght.

    Thanks Bob and Peter;

I also have another source that says the 5x7 bellows is the auxiliary bellows, so it looks like 24"/600mm is about right.

Bob, you don't have any of these laying around in the warehouse do you? I know it's a long, long, shot but it never hurts to ask :^D

    Steve,

the Kardan and the Kardan-Color are 5x7" and 8x10" cameras only. Both uses 9" lensboards, but two different ones. The third Linhof view camera model was the Kardan-Bi, buildt in three different sizes fom 4x5" up to 8x10", also with 6.5" lensboards. The auxiliary and the main bellows are also 6.5" at the lens standard.

So it sounds like your camera is a Kardan-Color.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Peter,

That's interesting that the 9" lensboards are different between the Kardan-Color cameras. That's useful to know. I'd like to have one or two for the 8x10 if you run across them. For some reason the recessed boards are common but flat boards seem rare.

    Yes, it is a Kardan-Color

    Steve,

mostly the lenses used with the Kardan-Color where mounted on Technika 5x7 boards. Only some realy large lenses needs the whole lensboard. Both, flat and recessed lensboard, where aviable as adapter-boards accepting Technika 5x7" lensboards, so one needes only one of this heavy and expensive Kardan-Color lensboards.

BTW, the Kardan and Kardan-Color lensboards are so large to accept the pneumatic behind-the-lens "Grundner" shutter made up to the fifties.

    Cheers,

    Peter,

That's exactly what I'm doing. One of the flat boards will hold a 405mm Kodak portrait with a large packard behind, and the other will be made into a Sinar-board adapter with Packard since Sinar boards are so much more common and cheaper.

I have a flat board that was custom fabricated without light trap, and a rough recessed board which will get the recess trimmed off and a flat plate fastened to the front.

No worries about the size or weight of a lens with this camera.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Nothing for the Karans is available but the blank 001040 Technika 57 board is still available as are any accessories that fit the current Kardan camera standards. These would be the same as the Kardan B and the original round rail 45, 57 and 810 Super Color from the time of the B.

That means that bellows for the Kardan B and later are in stock.

Sorry Bob, the "Kardan Color" uses the big rail, made from steel with chromium finish, with a diameter of 50mm, the same as the one used with the "Universal Accessory Stand", also with the same toothed rail. But the rail for the "Kardan-Bi" and the early "Kardan Super Color" is from aluminium alloy with a diameter of 34mm.

    Peter K
