An experiment - Nikkor-M 300mm f9 (at f9) + battered old Hasselblad Softar II. Thirty second exposure.

I thought the Softar would be quite mild, will have to try the Softar I out

2 new ones from yesterday. But the lens is very unusual. Schneider Symmar. Yup. I had a 210 Symmar S MC with front light going all to pieces. So I took the front doublet out, took the rear lens off, and what is left is a 11" - ish meniscus that you can simply watch the glow coming off the highlights and adjust for the amount you want with aperture. It works better stopped down a little. So, if you can't afford a Kalosat or a Struss, use your Symmar!

Jac, the '38 Ford is incredibly modern for me. Compared to those 2 stupid Model A's. Roll up windows! Soft comfy seat. And smoooooooooooooooth V8 power. Wish it was a '39. Then I could add hydraulic brakes to the list. But if wishes were horses . . .

I'll admit to being, perhaps, the Slow One in the group. But if you haven't already seen them, Guttenburg.org has three electronic books from 1920 to 1922 that were originally produced by Clarence H. White. At the end of the books are advertisements for various soft focus lenses. It's interesting, to me at least, to have a look at what kinds of lenses were trying to be sold to pictorialists of the time.

These are done with the front light out of a CineTel telephoto cine lens. Lens was 300mm but front light by itself is about 16" I believe. The front group is a fine achromatic meniscus doublet. It's film days (35mm film) were over. So re-purposed as a soft focus lens.
