Post Your Waterfalls

I don't usually use longer lenses shooting waterfalls but I gave it a try last time I was out. I like having a foreground and background relationship rather than a tight image of the falls.

Anyway, I set my aperture so as to get a shorter shutter speed to catch the water a little crisper than the soft creamy look I usually get. I think this was at 1/4. Taken with a 240mm G-Claron.

I like this one a lot, and prefer the water this way. A trick I have yet to try is divide your exposure into 4 or 8 segments. For example, 1/4=4@1/15, or 1/4=8@1/30.

This looks really nice. The exposure time, for me, is close to perfect. You can still tell it's "water." :-)

I really like that one, Corran. I prefer to see a bit of texture in the water because it shows fluid movement rather than looking like textureless fog. The overall textures and tones are lovely. I like the composition too, though I usually prefer to see where the water lands.

Thanks guys. Yes, the water (especially the arching bit to the left) is what interested me and I'm glad I did a shorter exposure time.

Steve - I tried doing the multiple exposure trick just recently. Check out the second image in my last post in the medium format b&w thread. I did 4 exposures of 1/4 each to get the requisite 2 second needed time. It came out pretty well.

Bryan I wondered about that. That shot has more depth/contour to the water than one done the standard way.

From the details left in the water, it looks like a sub-second exposure indeed... not very common in large format in the woodland. Beautiful, thanks!
