    Filmholder Scratches

I have alot of the older Riteway 4x5 holder that have scratches on the center divider.
The question being will this effect anything when I make an exposure.

Do I need to paint these holders, and if so any recommendations on paint.

I haven't been able to find an answer to this through the search function.

    Thanks,
    Frank

Should be OK - but test first before committing any important images to film. One possible concern would be if the scratches are bad enough to abrade the film. A little touch up with a very fine wet or dry sandpaper and a darkening with an impervious black magic marker might be a good fix.

Thanks, I'll try that on one of them and see how it works.

Most of my film holders qualify as 'well used' and many have scratches there. I've never noticed any effect. I run my finger over them when reloading film, just to make sure they haven't developed flaws which would scratch film, and have so far found nothing.

    Thanks Mike,

I was concerned that I might get some type of flare spot on the negative but it 's sounding like it's not a problem. I just haven't shot enough 4x5 yet to know what effect these bare metal spots will have on the film.

Not to worry. Just apply black magic marker over the bare metal....
