Hi Don. Yes I love tinkering too, and it sometimes keeps me from making images. (Not enough hours in the day.) I think Ned's comment is spot-on when he suggests that the pinhole is being obstructed. As I look closely now I can see a definite ridge formed by the hole in which the pinhole sits. I'm going to take the pinhole out and bevel the hole, and see if that makes a difference. I'll post some images as soon as I've fixed the problem. All the best to you.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did not think of that.

Great idea, Ned. I've been thinking about this (not for my own purposes) and wonder how close the subjects will be, and how lighting might be difficult at close distances. I wonder about mounting a curved mirror around the pinhole to bounce light onto the subject. Just a thought. I've had 0.15mm apertures from Earl, and I think someone else in the past mentioned him supplying 0.1mm, but not sure about smaller sizes. What a great project. Good luck with it

What do you think about a dedicated pinhole thread on this forum? Such a loss since f295 closed and images can't be uploaded any more.

I'm thinking of making an 8x10 or 11x14 camera to make pinhole photos of the faces of ants, bees and beetles BTW I've run into that same "vignetting" problem on a lot of my curved plane pinhole cameras, and often end up fussing with the mount to remove obstructions... it's a small angle to the edges of your film or paper. Have fun!

    Barry, there's this thread: http://www.largeformatphotography.in...t-yer-pinholes

Most of my pinholes are on 5x7 or larger, so it's LF that way, but I'm not sure how folks here feel about not using a lens!

The curved mirror is a very interesting idea. I have a macro pinhole camera that is at optimal somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 of an inch, but still works very well at 1/4 inch. It has a 0.15mm pinhole and about a 4 inch "focal length". It is very difficult to light the subject which is why I don't use it much. I'm thinking of making this new camera more pyramidal and attaching a couple of those flexible book lights to each side for lighting, with a little platform ( probably a microscope slide ) to put subjects on and a black backdrop. I've been doodling designs but haven't come to a final one yet...

Intriguing idea, Ned. Good luck with it. I should have been more precise: I was thinking of a thread dedicated to pinhole camera design and building, in addition to the existing image posting thread. I'll ask the mods.
