Thread: Show off your Large Format camera!

Nearly Restored 5x7 Sinar Norma by Nokton48, on Flickr

Since we are all locked down here I have been working on restoring my old Normas, as they are more than sixty years old, they need some attention. This is my 5x7, I have put in some new light sealing foam in the front and rear standards, and also new foam in this new to me Sinar Norma Shutter. I sent the shutter out for cleaning (it was sticky inside) and replaced the sync cord, although for whatever reason, it is still not firing with strobes. I will get it sorted eventually, for now I will use my other Norma Shutter with my strobes in the studio, it fires 100%. The lens is a Sinar Norma 121mm F8 Super Angulon, forward mounted with copal shutter built-in, and full Norma Auto Aperture automation. This is the most deluxe way you could get this lens from Sinar at the time. Looking forward to shooting more HR-U XRay film with this new to me camera. Should make fantastic split-grade VC RC prints.

Looks great, Ben! I wish I had a 10 instead of my No. 7.

Here is my new buddy 8x10 arca metric. I had to buy a brand new 141mm f-line classic front frame to support the 4kg combo of the cooke, sinar copal shutter, and the adapter since the orbix frame can’t tolerate such a weight.

The second picture is the camera with cm-w fujinon 450mm f8 mounted on 110mm board and attached to the reducer 141mm -> 110mm. The front frame is the micrometric orbix. The fujinon weighs 1140g but no problem with the orbix. And of course the center of the gravity of the lens is near to the front frame vertical axis. That helps compared to the front heavy example above!! I found out the rear barrel of the lens is 90mm and the inner diameter of the adapter is the same so I need to take off the rear barrel every time I mount/dismount the lens ... a bit inconvenient.

Here's a DIY 5x7 conversion kit that I just made for my existing Toho FC-45X monorail, with all parts bought off new off the Internet except the custom aluminum supports that I had a machinist plasma-cut locally. I've moved most of the photos and description to the LF DIY section per the other poster's suggestion.

Joseph thats brilliant! (should be in DIY section?) My own version of this (once piece 5x7 back/bellows/board adapter), while very sturdy and useable, and of roughly equal weight, is very clunky compared to yours:

I was lucky in having a Toho FC-45 around to serve as a base unit. Otherwise, it would not have been as feasible. Toho did all of the heavy lifting back when... Yours seems just as serviceable and workable, and that's what counts in the end.

I bought this Graflex Graphic View II in the summer. It came with a handy adapter to mount my lenses in Pacemaker boards on the Graphic View, which takes anniversary boards.

    That is exceptional!
I really like my Toho; went hiking with it just this week.
