B8850. Is there a new HP printer on the block?

    HP B9180 VS. B8850?
I've been lusting for a B9180 ever since reading Ted's preliminary review on this forum, but didn't get it when the price hit bottom and waited for it to continue dropping. WRONG!
Anyhoo, Calumet just sent a blurb on the B8850, which sounds even newer and better and is $100 less.
Can anyone comment on it? Thanks

    Bill,

Go to the HP website and compare the two printers. They are almost the same except the B8850 doesn't have the touch screen found on the B9180 and it appears the B8850doesn't support Mac. All other features appear to be the same.

This is the first I have heard about the printer, so I have no first hand knowledge. Take the plunge and let us know what you think!

There is a detailed review of the B8850 at photo-i.co.uk

    Good Luck.

According to HP, it supports the MAC.

Cut and pasted from their PDF

    Support/Connectivity

    USB Hi-speed 2.0

Microsoft® Windows Vista™, 2000 SP3(6) or higher, or XP; Mac OS X v10.3.9 or higher; G4, G5, or Intel Core

FYI: I found a review in the current Shutterbug. They like it.

    Bill,

If you end up getting one I would be very interested in your opinion. Would you be using it for color, black and white work or both?

75% B&W, 25% color. I'll have to try some of the new Baryta papers.

The 8850 is virtually the same printer as the 9180 with a few differences:

    --no ethernet connection

    --no front panel led readout

--does not take paper weights as heavy as the 9180

The actual printing 'guts' of the two machines are the same.
