Potentially dumb question, will a Manfrotto head fit on a Gitzo tripod?
Potentially dumb question, will a Manfrotto head fit on a Gitzo tripod?
Most Manfrotto heads have a 3/8-16 threaded socket that would mate with the 3/8-16 threaded stud on the top of most Gitzo tripods. That said, there are possibly exceptions. I have a Manfrotto 410 gear head which I occasionally use on my Gitzo legs with no problem.
Do they have the same thread?
They are ill discoverers that think there is no land, when they can see nothing but sea.

My 410 fits perfectly onmy old studex.

As far as I've seen, there are two sizes of threaded posts you might see atop a tripod or monopod. One is the 3/8-16 and the other is 1/4-20 (I think). I have not seen any other sizes, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist.
I would be inclined to believe that in this case both the head and tripod use the larger 3/8-16 standard size.
Industry standard has pretty much been 3/8 - 16 and 1/4 - 20 for a Long time now, all of my bogens/manfrottos as well as my Gitzo's, Ries, Tiltall's and various others I have owned over the last 20+ years, have had one or the other of these two sizes..
