Copal shutter with white aperture lever

    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me why some copal shutters have a white aperture lever with a red arrow printed on it where as on some the aperture lever is solid black? does this denote an older shutter / lens?

    Thanks

The black pointer tip is the latest. The shutters with the black face and white pointer are just prior to that.

It's because they used a different color of plastic.

Re: Copal shutter with white aperture lever

I guess I could narrow it down a bit if I took all of my shutters off of their lens boards and looked at the date code stamped on the back....or, if my lenses were Schneiders (Schneider optics have posted reliable serial number to production date range information).

If pressed, I'd have to guess that the color of the pointer tip thingy changed from white to black in the late 1980's or early 1990's. The face went for chrome to black plastic some years before that...Honestly though, if not abused, they all work well and are reliable.
