Nice old post oaks, I'm assuming--they might even be remnants of the Cross Timbers...one of the gnarlier ecosystems white settlers encountered on the road west.

I saw this (dead) tree out on the way to a job in Pipe Creek, Tx and felt the urge to photograph. I was really pleased to have a sky!

I owned a ranch in Pipe creek for more than a decade. 290 acres of God’s country with 3/4 of a mile of emerald green limestone bottom Pipe Creek running through it. It’s where my children were born and where I poured my first wet plates. I do miss that ground. Thanks for bringing back such good memories.

    Nice photograph to boot!

Didn't quite nail the composition, but that's an excuse to go back another snowy day.

Thanks jp! I actually found a copy of this on eBay for a few bucks so I bought it, looking forward to checking it out!

So last night I made an exposure in my backyard that I've been meaning to do for a while, but weather hasn't worked out (or moon phases). But I had good weather so gave it a go.

This was with my Mercury 4x5 and 47mm XL, at f/8 and exposed for 4 hours. Still ended up with a vastly underexposed negative. No moon, very little light pollution here in the rural mountains of north Georgia, so getting closer to figuring out a "base" exposure for T-Max 100 in these conditions. I used FX-39 to develop it but I was using the last drops of my last bottle. Need to try DD-X next or mix up some new Acufine to try a high-speed developer.

Anyway, here it is. I love this tree and its surroundings down the back hill of my property:

This is an embarrassing photograph as it is nothing special, except that it is the FIRST out of my Chamonix 4x5. My first view camera photo in 35 years. I had half an hour until I had to get my daughter at school so I loaded the film in a holder, walked outside in a snow storm, exposed, and went back in. Total time 20 minutes.

You know, I actually like this. It’s not a miss at all and I think it is an excellent first effort.

Thank you Steve! I can tell you that was the most feverishly paced 20 minute photograph I ever took : )
