Shailendra; the tall style works great! It's like being there and pausing to take in the scenery and looking up.

Birch Point Beach state park this past Saturday with the 4x5 speed graphic. FP4+ film in pyrocat hdc. First photo with Aero Ektar wide open of course, then the soft photo with 7.25" Verito.

    Bravo and Bravo again !

I like them as a pair ! They compliment one another.

They both have a superb sense of presence and atmosphere, mystery, surprise, savoring of nature, subtlety of light, sophisticated composition... on and on...

This is a kallitype of the second 8x10 negative I ever exposed. I took this while working with Richard Ritter for a couple of days of one-on-one training back in 2012 in Vermont. He helped me focus the first negative I took along the plane of focus, but I insisted on focusing the second one by myself (which was easy, since it was straight on). I then used the negative a couple of years later to create my first kallitype at the Center for Alternative Photography in NYC. For those who may not know, a kallitype is a hand-coated contact print that uses silver nitrate and ferric oxalate, considered the “poor man’s platinum print” of the late 1800’s. The second image is of me working with Leah Elmaleh, instructor and master of alternative photographic processes.

Went back and made a photograph with the 8x10 today of this scene having photographed it with the 4x5. Richer tones.

Sorta on a similar wavelength to Austin, but a little more wavy... Shadows and trees.. Birch Point Beach state park a week ago. 4x5 FP4+ in pyrocat hdc... 9" Gundlach Hyperion soft focus.

And less crazy and a little more dignified... Same place, other side of the road and nearly opposite light.

This tree is along Meadow Run at Ohiopyle State Park and the branches reach out very far.

This tree is probably the most famous on the island, being that it's upright and at the edge of the sea, and many people take photos of it. I knew I would shoot it myself when I saw the reflections in the sand. I tried to compose it at least with some leading diagonals from the clouds and seafoam.
