For me the first version is tighter and more direct. This one has a more clinical feel.

Agreed, the first version felt the most resolved to me as well.

Thanks for the input guys. It's funny, I was kind of leaning toward this one, but that well may be because it's newer to me (by a day). Anyway though, it strikes me that the two pictures are pretty different, not so much visually but as in the sense that the first one is more about trees, and this one is more about humans-ha!

This one might clinch it for me if it were longer and included more of the left side. As it stands, it doesn't feel right when the perspective dynamic of the line of trees moves in from the right but not the left. You need more of the left side pointing the eye towards the vanishing point for it to feel balanced. If that makes sense.
