    Luminosity and Saturation Masking?

Is anyone here using luminosity and/or saturation as the basis for masking layers? What has been your experience in using these? Thanks for sharing any experience that you may have.

I use Luminsoity Masks on every image I edit. Probably 90% of my layers have luminosity masks with them. I love the control of being able to work with small chunks of tonal ranges. You might want to contact Tony Kuyper. He came up with the set of actions that I currently use.

I use Tony Kuyper's action too. I like it alot. I use it for black and white only.

    Re: Luminosity and Saturation Masking?

Custom sharpening can be applied to different luminosity levels, according to one's best visual judgment. Depending on the image, it can make a big difference in perceived image quality.

This is less important when dealing with large format images, but can be critical for small "lossy" JPG files.

In color images, sharpening itself is often best applied in a layer whose blending property is Luminosity.

This is another useful resource for saturation masks.

    Re: Luminosity and Saturation Masking?

This is one of my earliest examples using luminosity masking. While I did not download the actions developed by Tony Kuyper, I did use his excellent instructions. I probably would have been able to get the unmasked image to a more acceptable point but it would have taken a lot more work than luminosity masking.
