Which Technika lensboard for 90mm f6.8 Rodenstock?

    Hi folks,

I just picked up a great 90 f6.8 Rodenstock for my Tech V, and I wanted to ask for people's opinions on which kind of lensboard is optimal for this lens. My questions are, specifically:

My sense is that the camera has a chance of closing only with a recessed lensboard. Is this true, or is it too big anyway?

Is there any worthwhile difference between the two depths of recess, which I think are 11mm and 34mm? (Apologies for being off in advance).

Is a flat lensboard OK? Are there any relative disadvantages?

As always, thanks for any info. Happy shooting!

001015 is the correct current board.

The camera will not close with this lens on it.

The board you need, the 001015, is the proper depth for your camera.

With a flat board at infinity the rails of the front standard will not be securely on the focusing rails. That is why the factory specifies the 001015 board.

The correct depth. You can call me tomorrow if you want to get all of the differences between the current 001015, the former 001015, the old 001015, the recently discontinued 001016, the old 001016 and the other Linhof recessed lensboards that are currently available.

Thanks, Bob. The info is always appreciated. I will probably call you tomorrow then. If anyone else has examples of concrete experience, they are also appreciated.

What are you using it on? Do you need the recess?

I used a 90mm f5.6 Super Angulon on my Tech V with a flat lensboard and didn't have any problems. I used to slide the top rail back so that it abutted the rail that's in the camera housing to deal with the potential problem Bob mentions. That's simple to do and it kept the front standard from hanging over the back of the rail. When I switched from the 90 to the 80mm SSXL I bought a recessed board, I thought it was needed with that focal length, but not with the 90, at least not with the 90 I owned.

Sorry, I did not read the first post carefully. I use the board Bob recommended with my Tech IV, but it is a mixed blessing. If you are going to get a recessed board, the f-stop extension scale is great, but setting the shutter speed is still a bit of a hassle on any recessed board. The recess gives you a little more room for rise than a flat board, but it puts the standards right between bed supports on the IV, so you get no shift. I do not know if that would be different on the V, but you might measure out where a flat board would fall and see if makes more sense on the V.
