    New Rural America Portfolio

Hi. I have just updated and added a recent project to my website. Some of you may have seen the project featured in an article in Photolife. The subject matter: rural america. I would appreciate your thoughts. The project can be found in Gallery 7 of the Photo Galleries section of my web site at www.josephkaynephoto.com. I do not know how to make a direct link so if someone would be gratious enough to do I would be grateful.

    Thanks

    Joe.

These are beautiful photographs and certainly capture the whimsical side of rural America very well. As I was looking at them I kept thinking that this is what Wright Morris would have done if he photographed in color.

I'm curious about your working methods. I assume you ask permission of the owners of the various buildings and objects that you photograph. What do you tell them - e.g. that you're working on a book, that you're an amateur out for some fun, that you like old farms, etc. etc.? Do you generally receive their cooperation or do you get turned down a lot? Do you send them prints?

Great selection. I'm always a sucker for a rustic barn.

Thanks for the comments!!! Very much appreciated. Brian, I always try to get permission. If no one is around, I make the images. I send prints to the people who own the barns or homes. I have never met any resistance. Farmers are very encouraging and are full of good history!

    Thanks.

Hi Joe. Thanks for sharing these wonderful images. I absolutely love your photographs for this project! This would make a great book. You would also clean up on the art fair circuit in the Midwest with these images. Last summer I spent a few days with the 4x5 at my family's farm and loved the change of scenery from my usual landscapes. You are certainly making the most out of your location. Keep up the good work!
