I saw the msnbc article last night. Like most of what's on msnbc it is flawed sensationalist propaganda packaged to infotain the self perceived ubermensch masses.

Probably the same guys that said vacuum tubes would no longer be produced 40 years ago....still being produced today...Russia, china and yugoslavia.
Piggy BANKS? maybe they should have done a little homework? Check out CoinStar...publicly traded take your change to the local store and get credit/gift card business. Stock price would indicate coins/change will be around for a long time...
business has been growing steadily I might add...

right, but the ones people like were all made decades ago, during tubes' heyday, and people now pay ten times to hundreds of times the original price for "new old stock."
let's hope film has a brighter future than this. i'm not excited by the thought of buying "vintage" tmax from internet dealers for hundreds of dollars a box!
tubes don't have expiration dates. they can also be used more than once.
Some of these examples look questionable to me. They come across to me as personal opinions. Just because an industry is in decline, doesn't mean it'll be out of business in 10 years.
But, that doesn't mean that the film's business is rosy either. I'm hoping and thinking that B&W will continue to exist. Long live Ilford!
And as to used books stores, I don't buy it.
Etc.
