    Shutter Servicing

    Hi,
I just purchased a lens with a Copal 0 shutter that the owner says may need servicing. What type of servicing is needed for shutters on a periodic basis? Cleaning? Adjusting/checking speeds?

Also, what are some reliable places to have such a shutter serviced and how much should I expect to pay? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area but am open to mailing the lens/shutter.

    Thanks,
    Vijay

Hi, here is a link to a place in southern cal

She is very good. It took about 2 weeks to service my shutter. You might email her to see how long it would take.

I get my shutters cleaned and serviced at International Camera Technicians in Mountain View. I usually end up paying around $150 for the shutters I bring in but these had not seen service in 40+ years. He usually takes around 2 weeks to complete the service but it depends on how many other lenses he is working on.

More props for Carol at Flutot's. Great workmanship and great prices.

Carol's turn around time continues to lengthen as more and more people use her fine service. However, her price is still amazingly low - far below the $150 quoted above.

Yes, Carol will do close to 3 (Give or take a little) shutters for that price and they work very well.
