Do I assume correctly that the bristlecone pine image was made with about 1--2 inches of front rise? The "swirlies" at the top of the picture suggest that the optical center was about that far below the center of the frame. (Nice image, anyway!)
Three Sunflowers is from my homepage. Unfortunately haven't gotten much new done lately, but this remains one of my favorites. 8 3/4" Verito at f/6 or so on 4x5. Scan is of the palladium print.
On my monitor at least, there seems to be something like grain in the sky.
Is that due to the lens, or something else ?

Hi Gene
Beautiful shot! Pardon my ignorance but what is 'butterfly lighting'? Are you lighting through a scrim or a net and hence the term?
Thanks
BUTTERFLY LIGHTING is where you have a "hard" light up high, almost directly in front of the model, so the shadow of the nose forms just a little butterfly under the nose. A Classic portrait technique, hard light, soft lens, produces glamour.
Of course, unless you are hanging your lighting instrument from the ceiling, the light "has" to be a little bit right or left of center, so you have a place for your camera.
Hey Kerik, I'd buy that picture you posted. It's that good!
