A quick update.

It's been a long time coming, but I'm off to Afghanistan for a few weeks in late October/November. I'll be based in Kabul, and I'm now looking for suggestions about where else to go, as well as any suggestions about Delhi and Dubai, one of which will be the gateway through which I'll fly into Afghanistan. I'll be staying with people who have been in Afghanistan for a couple of years, and in whom I have a lot of confidence, so I'm not concerned about safety issues. Not sure yet about whether I'll also get to Pakistan, probably not since my flight will go through either India or Dubai.

Thanks for all the earlier references to photogrpahers and the reference to the RGS.

Thought I'd post this so that the people who contributed last spring know that their time and advice was responsive to what has turned out to be more than idle talk

Personally, I'd head for the source of the Oxus. But that probably just reflects a childhood reading too many tales of derring-do.
