    Should actually introduce myself...

Been posting here for a few weeks (not regularly, just an on and off thing) then thought I should actually talk about myself.

Hi! I'm Nate Downes, a salesman working for a national camera chain. I sell a lot of digital gear, some film equipment, and I shoot on... film! I now have a collection of cameras, 39 in total, from Super8 movie cameras to a plate camera that I've modified to take 3.25x4x25 film holders. And I use all of them. To me, it is a shame and a waste to let cameras collect dust as ornamental bits. They were made for 1 thing, shooting! If the film is not handy, I just work at it till I can make it work.

The irony is, when I began selling cameras, all I owned was a digital camera. Then I began using the film cameras in the store, and seeing the difference. For christmas that year, bought a fully automatic 35mm SLR. Then, a fully manual SLR, then found a rangefinder.... and it kept going from there.

Using is believing. Welcome, Nate. And don't worry, you'll probably stop at 20x24! ;->

An official introduction deserves an official "Howdy".

    Hi Nate,

Welcome to the forum. Start off with a 4x5 and, eventually, you'll end up with an 8x10 or, as Colin suggested... a 20x24!

    It's ALL good!

    Cheers

Not necessarily. Have you tried to get any Velvia in a size that big lately?

    Hi Rob,

I can well imagine the costs of Velvia in larger sizes.

The last time I bought a pack of Provia in 8x10, it was US$80 for 10 sheets and $380 for 50 sheets!

    Pretty costly for sure!

But, it sure does look great on the light table!

    Cheers

BTW, do they sell Velvia / Provia in 20x24? If so, what would a box of it cost? :>8

Welcome from Vancouver, Nate, and a Happy New Year too. If you're planning 8x10 or larger, find yourself a good back surgeon before you need one (as I did). Cheers, Uri

Sorry, the biggest you can get it in is 8x10. It would be cool to see 20x24 Velvia or Provia.
