Re: Choosing which forums to view

For obvious reasons I'm posting this question to an unrelated thread. One would think the easiest thing in the world would be just starting a new thread (i.e. asking a question, making an observation, etc.) as opposed to replying to an existing thread. Obviously others have figured this out since plenty of people are posting questions and I'm sure I'll be embarassed when someone explains how, but I've decided to swallow whatever pride I have in my computer literacy (which is very little), stop reading FAQs, clicking on any conceivably relevant link, and otherwise spending a lot of time on what surely must be the most basic of all things in this new system, and just ask the question: how do you start a thread?

I usually lick it a little before pushing it through the eye of the needle?

To start a thread in the proper sub-forum, click on the "Large Format Photography Forum" link in the top box. That will take you to the sub-forum view, then select the forum you want, and there's a "New Thread" button above the messages.

I looked into the last visit thing. "Last Visit" only gets set after your connection cookie times out (currently after 30 min). So, if you re-visit before the timeout happens, the 'Last Visit' time isn't updated in your user data, and stays whatever it was. I guess that means if you checked in every 25 min, forever, your Last Visit time would never be updated.

Thanks Ralph. I'm glad to see it wasn't quite so obvious as I thought it might be. I didn't realize we now have sub-forums, guess I'll have to read up on that one too. Pretty soon I may actually figure this whole thing out and even get comfortable with it.

    No problem, Brian.

I did a little write-up, trying to summarize some of the new features. You might find this helpful as a Reader's Digest-like condensation of the FAQ:

Tom, is there a way of turning off the pagination of threads? Or at least configuring the number of posts per page to a higher number?

    Thanks.

Tim thanks. I should have just poked around the user profile stuff instead of searching the FAQ etc. That'll teach me to RTFM...
