    Independent of any imagined impact on attracting attention: make the home page picture one that you feel is representative of what you're about photographically. Don't make it a "grabby" or "exciting" picture if your work isn't about being grabby or exciting. (On the other hand, if it is...)

    It's not unusual for me to spot a new web site, look at the 1st page and decide, for any one of many possible reasons, it is of little or no interest to me. I move on.

    When I had my web site for my business, it was simple.

    My main page had a link for pricing and a link for images. It also had a teaser photo to get their interest.

    The people I wanted as clients I found spent very little time on the main page. They are young and busy

    The page had a place to send an email.
