    Re: Yosemite NP closure

Sonora Pass Hwy 108 is now open as far as Kennedy Meadow on the west, at the bottom of the grade. Everything seems to be running a month late. Tioga Pass Hwy 120 will probably take longer since the Park insists on doing their portion of it themselves, instead of better-equipped Caltrans.

    Re: Yosemite NP closure

Sonora Pass now open clear over the top, though potentially icy, especially in mornings. But inside Yosemite, the Park has the road plowed only as far as Yosemite Creek on the W side of 120. Caltrans is only allowed to plow the Hwy on the E side up to the Park border at the top of Tioga Pass; and it could easily take a couple weeks or more for the Park to reach it from their side. I'll wait until there's enough thaw to open up camping spots on Sonora Pass, then make the loop trip returning back over Tioga Pass. The mainly volcanic terrain around Sonora Pass hosts less mosquitoes than the upper Yosemite area; and they will be terrible this summer.

The Virginia Lakes road is now also plowed as far as the resort; but FS campsites are probably not open yet. Be in running shape in deep snow from that point on - the skeeters will be chasing you!
