I've dealt with Michael at Scan Solutions for years. Amazing support and service. He has refurbished units. Take my advice and buy one from him and save yourself lots and lots of frustration.

ty!!! Is $8k a reasonable price?
I asked a dealer in U.K. his machine was $7k, but plus shipping and building a wooden box will be more than $8k.
That's a fair price AS LONG AS it is cleaned and aligned and comes with the focusing template. Cleaning, etc will cost you another $1000 plus shipping.
I would go for an Eversmart instead of an IQSmart. Any Eversmart from ProII and higher. Eversmarts have been designed and built by Scitex and have a superior optical system (lens in particular).
I bought an IQsmart II from Michael a few years back. It was in excellent condition and he provides outstanding support. Shipped it ran me around $5k IIRC
I don't know if the difference would be all that pronounced. I use a Supreme II and it's very, very good. But I've seen Smart3 scans that are beautiful. The Supreme II has an actively cooled CCD, better lens, and MaxDR mode...but using MaxDR burns out the CCD. I think it would be a very dense chrome kind of thing. For negative film I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference, and that's what most people are shooting and scanning these days.
