    How do burning circuit boards compare with all this? It is/was done with contact printing with collimated light, if I have it right.

    Do you mean the microlithography systems that make the processor chips ? If so, that's on another level again. Even the lens-based systems that are now being superseded were operating at over 10,000 lp/mm. They are like giant macro lenses that work at about 4 to 1 or 5 to 1 reduction.

    The latest nanolithography machines produce IC's with 5nm feature sizes. That's about 1/100th the wavelength of green light and 200,000 line pairs/mm.

    I know, we make precision optics in North Wales, but that stuff is about 100x more accurate that what we do !
    I saw a presentation document about this 2 years ago, but it looks like they've updated it since :
