Tin Can
I was inspired by Ms. Hofer's photographs before I ever took up photography. My grandfather (who was an expatriate Englishman) had a copy of her book "London Perceived", which I inherited (and was entranced by) at age 13. It's still a great book; her sense of light and color are very individual, and her portraits quietly show her sitters' character.
I don't know why she has been mostly forgotten, and am glad that the art world is finally taking notice. She published a number of 'city portrait' books in the 1950s-60s, each with extensive texts by well-known writers. I also enjoy her book "Dublin, A Portrait"; there are several others, some of which I have not found copies of yet.
I'll strongly recommend her work to everyone who frequents this forum- you'll be in for a pleasant surprise.
The NYT did a story on her a few years back & had a slide show of her Linhof Technika color images of New York
