    Makro Symmar HM

Anyone ever used one of these for enlarging?
I have the use of one in mint condition with a barrel mount, but the iris looks more star shaped than round.
It is a 180 mm lens, which could be an advantage if one wants to tweak a bit more out of one’s negative in terms of size with a larger aperture than can be used with a 190 mm Kodak.
    Anyway, just curious.

These can be used for enlarging, but they are optimized for the opposite -- high magnification (HM) -- macro work. You'd probably get better results if you reversed it on the enlarger -- or use a lens designed for enlarging.

With a list price of $1978, and 1:4 to 4:1 range, it seem like a very expensive way to make a 20" print from a 4x5" negative.

Thanks guys, I was thinking along those lines. But a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush as they say and since I don’t have to purchase the lens, I’ll give it a look.
