Need Some Guidance Traveling Through the Midwest

I could use some help from the large format community:

For the past two years, my assistant and I have been working on a long-term project making large format portraits of Americans across the country. You can read about the work here:

and view more of it here:

We will be back on the road in the early spring traveling to a bunch of unfamiliar places. Whenever we arrive, it’s invaluable to have some logistical guidance from local photographers, especially about where to set up in locations with plenty of pedestrian traffic throughout the day.

Here is a list of places we expect to visit starting in May and lasting until late July:

    Detroit
    Chicago
    Des Moines
    Omaha
    Oklahoma City
    Amarillo
    Lubbock
    Abilene
    Shreveport
    Vicksburg
    Jackson, MS
    Memphis
    Nashville
    Lexington
    Cincinnati
    Columbus OH

If you are familiar with any of these cities and/or their surrounding suburbs, or know someone who can help us, please Message me so that I might contact you directly for some guidance.
    Many many thanks!

    Hi,
I have no info about those areas, but it seems like you are circling around & bypassing Indiana...
    Hoosiers are some fine folks.

Actually, if we are able to fit in other places, like Indiana, we will be doing so. Do you have some specific recommendations for us?

Chicago is a big place - setting up by the lakefront will give a continuous stream of people passing by.

Those are great pictures and the words from the subjects are terrific. (second link) What a wonderful project. Good luck. I'm reminded that there was a photographer who did portraits of New Yorkers in NYC and published a book that got very favorable ratings. It was covered in the NY Times Photo Essay section a few years back. You might contact them when you finish your project.

But if you want real people you have to hit the southside Beverly, Chinatown, Bridgeport, 47th St.

I lived and worked the Chicago streets. Not for images.

I was selling tools in ghetto, cash only, never any credit except my personal loans for tools

at least 96% repaid, some took awhile

26 languages at the big HS, watch out when they run...right by my storefront

Later divorcé took it's share, living SRO, then storefronts, 1 day away from sleeping rough in the Park. Not a good plan. Common for others to steal pants and shoes!

My Dragons came from that and I still have 2, but not this one
