    Linhof 5" x 4" back fitted to Gandolfi 5" x 4" Tailboard camera

This camera came with a 1/4 plate, vertical only, back designed to take vertical single metal film sheaths but none came with it (I suspect that it was used as a portrait camera in a studio). The camera itself is clearly designed for 5" x 4" but finding a suitable Gandolfi back is like looking for a needle in a haystack. So I stripped down an old Linhof rotating back from an early Colour monorail and made a ply and card plate to slot into the Gandolfi. Fits is excellent and I am now on the look out for a suitable roll fillm back for use with lenses I have suited to 6x7 or 6x9, but can also use 5" x 4" covering lenses too. A fairly cheap if fiddly conversion plate.

If anyone knows which film holders the original back takes I would be very interested to know. The section they slide into appears to take 3 5/8" wide holders (which have a 3 1/2" width between the slides) and the groove they slot into is 1/20" deep. Or that's as accurate as I can measure.
